兼任國民黨主席的總統馬英九昨宣布，將延聘副總統吳敦義接任國民黨副主席，外界解讀吳副卡入接班行列，吳敦義今（4）日受訪回應說，「沒有這個事，不要想那麼多」。

吳敦義表示，大概一個多月前，總統找他商量，要請幾位加入副主席的行列，他向總統說不要，因為他在民國96年1月擔任黨秘書長，後來又加一個副主席，到98年9月，合計兩年8個多月的時間，都在黨工作，也是立委。

吳敦義說，到了98年9月10日，總統任命他當行政院長，他才離開黨跟立院的工作；實際上，有沒有在黨裡做事，都還是要分擔輔選必要責任。

他指出，一、兩周前，總統又和他提起這件事，因為七合一選舉迫在眉睫，希望他分擔輔選，參與黨內討論平台，需要有黨政經驗和國會歷練的人，同時又在中央和地方都服務過，希望他扮演這樣一個角色。

吳敦義表示，他想想後，總統盛情難卻，需要有這樣經驗的黨同志加入，「很單純啊」。

記者追問，這是否意味要壓制新北市長朱立倫的氣焰，吳敦義說，「這是過多聯想跟解讀，我跟立倫處得很好」，朱立倫第一次當縣長，還邀請他去演講，一直都很好。
