60歲台語歌手劉燕燕驚傳吞藥自殺，她在遺書中寫下：「30年了，我無法忍、無法再強顏歡笑、無法原諒自己，對不起兒子，對不起家人。」當晚藝人好友郭美珠收到她簡訊「我先走了，請替我收屍」，立刻偕警消破門衝入，發現劉已吞下大量安眠藥，所幸急救後搶回一命。
劉燕燕孩子生父為昔日中壢角頭「閹雞」李盛淵，平面媒體揭露後，她本盼對方讓兒子認祖歸宗，無奈李完全不理會，讓她心生打擊以致絕望，接連幾天情緒不穩。《自由時報》報導，好友郭美珠說近來常聽她哭訴，日前劉至她家喝醉酒後曾語出不吉利，表明若有天不在人世，要她幫忙照顧兒子。
本擔心是酒過三巡胡言亂語，友人趕緊送劉燕燕返家，稍晚後致電，她卻說自己在寫遺書，準備喝農藥，去找當年證婚的桃園縣議員鄧文昌父親鄧天來報仇，郭美珠甚至收到劉傳來簡訊：「美珠姐，我先走了，請替我收屍，謝謝！」嚇得大夥立刻報警趕往她中和住處。
趕赴時劉燕燕嘴唇發黑，已呈現失溫昏迷狀態，倒在書房時身旁還有近百顆安眠藥空包裝及啤酒，送往醫院後她不時哭喊「對不起兒子」、「好丟臉」等話。洗胃後目前確定無生命危險。
